"Wind of Hope", composed in 2007 by Sgt Denis Fortier, evokes a day in the life of a soldier in Afghanistan. The first theme is played by solo trumpet and represents the "Reveille" or wake-up call. This same theme is then played by the full band and reminds us of an "O Group" (orders group), where the mission orders are given out. The bagpipe then joins in, depicting combined operations. The middle section slows as the soldiers tire and become discouraged. However, supported by the rest of the unit (i.e. the full band), the opening theme comes back in triumph as the mission is completed. The piece ends at twilight, with the solo trumpet.
