On May 9th, 2014, decreed as a National Day of Honour, Canada recognized the end of the Afghanistan mission by honouring the valour, strength, and sacrifices of our men and women in uniform.

More than 40,000 Canadian Armed Forces members deployed during the 12-year mission, helping to combat terrorism, stabilise Afghanistan and rebuild the country’s capacity to provide its own security. Canada’s contribution to Afghanistan was the largest deployment of personnel since the Second World War.
