Join Our Unit

We train on Tuesday evenings, 7 - 10 pm. The Army Reserve is the part-time component of the Canadian Army. Most Army reservists work part-time for the Army and full-time at their civilian job. Others are full or part-time students. The Army Reserve has three main roles:

  • Provide the framework for mobilization or expansion by using existing Reserve units framework should the nation ever need to respond to a large crisis or an emergency
  • Connect with Canadians by strengthening the ties the Canadian Army Reserve has with local communities
  • Augment the full-time Army by providing soldiers, units or specialists.

The Army Reserve is progressively more active than it has been in years with an increased operational role in the Canadian contribution towards the maintenance of peace and stability in the world.

To apply you must meet the following basic eligibility requirements:

Our History

Since 2005, 38 Service Battalion has contributed 15 Combat Service Support soldiers to the mission in Afghanistan. In addition, the Battalion has provided soldiers to the Regular Force for operational missions in Germany, Cyprus, Egypt, Cambodia, Bosnia, Croatia, Haiti and Somalia. Members have also participated in domestic operations such as Operation PODIUM (2010 Olympic Games), Operation PEREGRINE (2003 B.C. forest fires) and Operation ASSISTANCE (1997 Manitoba floods).

On April 10, 2010, the former 16, 17 and 18 Service Battalions were reorganized into a single Service Battalion, 38 Service Battalion, as part of the Army Reserve’s Combat Service Support Optimization Plan. While each individual units’ traditions and historical milestones have been maintained, this amalgamation ultimately improved the unit’s operations by promoting easier selection of priorities, and better management of brigade resources. It also ensured that all brigade units are properly covered by the service support team.

Equipment

We use the following equipment: Heavy Logistics Vehicle, Wheeled (HLVW), HLVW Wrecker, and the Medium Support Vehicle System (MSVS). For information about the vehicles and weapons used by the Canadian Army visit our Equipment page.
