CWO Bud, RSM CFB SuffieldChief Warrant Officer (CWO) Budd joined the Canadian Forces in September 1976 as a Field Artilleryman. Upon enrollment, he underwent basic training at the Canadian Forces Recruit School in Cornwallis, Nova Scotia.

Subsequent to basic training, he was posted to CFB Shilo where he spent the next four years with the 3rd Regiment of The Royal Canadian Horse Artillery. During this period, he achieved the rank of Master Corporal and in 1980, he was posted to the Recruit School in Cornwallis, NS where he served as a troop instructor until 1983.

CWO Budd then returned to CFB Shilo where he spent several years at the Royal Canadian Artillery Battle School now known as Land Force Western Area (LFWA) Detachment Shilo. In 1989, he was posted to Gagetown, NB and attended the Assistant in Gunnery Course, which is designed to train Artillery Warrant Officers as subject matter experts in the field of Gunnery. Immediately following the completion of this course, he was promoted to Warrant Officer and remained in Gagetown to instruct on the Officer Phase Training portion.

In 1990, CWO Budd was posted to Canadian Forces Training and Development Center at CFB Borden where he worked on several projects such as Training Standards, Training Plans, Quality Assurance, and Management Development. He was also involved in designing a distance-learning module for the military’s Instructional Techniques Course.

CWO Budd also found time to complete a two year Management Development Program and worked on completing his Officer Professional Development Programs. In 1994, he was then posted back to Shilo with the 1st  RCHA and participated in the Winnipeg floods and Quebec ice storm while serving with C Battery until 1999.

In 2000, he then moved over to the Headquarters Battery where he assumed the position of Operations Warrant. While posted to the headquarters he was involved in mounting troops for operations to Bosnia, Kosovo and participated in the G8 Summit as part of the Brigade Headquarters. 

CWO Budd was appointed to the position of B Battery Sergeant Major in 2002 and was part of the lead element in OPERATION PEREGRINE in support of the B.C. wildfires in 2003.

In 2004, he was then appointed to the senior Sergeant Major position where he was responsible for all support trades within the Headquarters and Service Battery all of whom are responsible for providing overall Combat Service Support to 1 RCHA. In July 2006, CWO Budd was posted back to LFWA Detachment Shilo as the Detachment Sergeant Major. 

CWO Budd was invested as a Member of Military Merit (MMM) in 2002. In April 2008, CWO Budd completed his Command Course in Kingston, ON and was then promoted to his present rank. CWO Budd was posted and appointed to the position of Base Chief Warrant Officer at CFB Suffield in June 2008.

CWO Budd is married to Sylvia and are proud surrogate parents to two beautiful cats Abby and Frosty. CWO Budd enjoys hunting, golfing, camping and especially looks forward to those yearly winter escapes.
