Officially opened in 1958, CFB Gagetown, at 1100 square kilometres, is one of the largest military bases in Canada. Located 20 kms from the City of Fredericton, New Brunswick's provincial capital, we are adjacent to the Town of Oromocto with who we share a close and very unique relationship.
The combined Town of Oromocto/CFB Gagetown population is approximately ten thousand, of which 70 percent are military personnel and their dependants. The base itself employs approximately 4000 military members and 700 civilians. Being the largest Public Sector employer in the province, CFB Gagetown is a very significant contributor to the economy of surrounding communities and of the province.
There are two key organizations at CFB Gagetown;
3 Area Support Group plans, coordinates, and delivers integral support to the base and also to units and organizations located elsewhere in New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. It provides the management of infrastructure, property and natural resources, individual augmentation to current operations, support to domestic operations through force generation and logistic support, and support to equipment fielding, individual training and collective training.
Combat Training Centre is the centre of excellence for army training in Canada. It houses the Infantry, Artillery, Armour and Tactics schools as well as the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering. Our varied training area includes a Mounted Manoeuvre Area, Static Range Impact Area, Dry Training Areas, Conventional Ranges, and Water Training Sites. To ensure safe use of the training area, all activity within it is controlled and coordinated by Range Control.
CFB Gagetown is one of the rare places where the civilian and military communities are integrated in most aspects of life for the benefit of everyone.
