Transportation Company

Transportation Company is one of the largest transportation organizations in the Canadian Forces. Its role is to provide transportation services to all units of CFB Gagetown, seven Reserve Force units, and 17 Cadet units. To accomplish this role, Transportation Company has an average strength of 170 personnel and approximately 550 vehicles.

The functional organization of the company includes General Purpose Vehicle Platoon, Special Purpose Vehicle Platoon, Fleet Management Cell, Traffic Section, MSE Safety Section, Postal Section, Field Support Platoon, and Company Headquarters.

General Purpose Vehicle Platoon is the largest platoon in the Company and provides passenger and cargo transport services. Passenger service includes staff car and bus details. Cargo services include mail runs, medium cargo and tractor-trailer transportation up to tank hauling.

Special Purpose Vehicle Platoon is responsible for the maintenance/snow removal of approximately 700 kilometers of road and support to other Construction Engineer projects on Base and in the range training area. POL Section carries out field refueling for units, and refueling operations at 403 Helicopter Operational Training Squadron.

Fleet Management Cell was created in 1999 to carry out a thorough and complete validation of the commercial vehicle fleet and to further optimize its use. Fleet Management Cell also includes Finance, Customer Services, Maintenance Planning and ADP services.

Traffic Section provides for the movement of personnel, furniture and effects, and material. It processes approximately 500 personnel per year, 60 tons of material per month and 1000 moves of furniture and effects each year.

MSE Safety's aim is to reduce manpower and equipment losses to a minimum as a result of injuries and damages sustained in MSE accidents. MSE Safety also administers and coordinates courses such as Defensive Driving, Safe Backing, and Air Brakes for both military and civilian personnel.

Postal Section is responsible for the distribution of all mail received and dispatched. Each year approximately 65,000 pounds of mail are processed.

Field Support Platoon is dedicated to providing integral transportation support to the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering (CFSME). It coordinates, controls and conducts the transportation of personnel and cargo for CFSME both in garrison and in the range training area during field exercises.
