Maintenance Company

Formed from the now disbanded 3 Service Battalion, Maintenance Company is the largest land maintenance organization in the Canadian Forces aside from 202 Workshop Depot. It has an effective strength of 325 military/civilian personnel employed in l7 buildings throughout CFB Gagetown, primarily in the B-lines (second line) and K-lines (first line) as well as Building L-33.

CFB Gagetown provides the range and training facilities for the combat arms trades, therefore virtually all of the types of land technical equipment in Land Forces Command are found here and this presents a unique challenge and training opportunity to the technicians. Maintenance Company is also unique in that it provides integral, close and general support to four schools and this accounts for almost half of the workshop's overall workload. The schools maintain a level of training activity that frequently requires support seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day. This support is required not only in garrison but throughout the training area and demands the flexibility of Mobile Repair Teams (MRTs). In this regard, Maintenance Company differs considerably from static workshops found at other Bases.

In addition to CFB Gagetown, the workshop provides first and second-line maintenance to Reserve and Cadet units throughout New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. Close and general maintenance support is also provided to lodger units. There is also a myriad of regional responsibilities such as the area-wide responsibility for the Maintenance Trade Advisory functions for both the Regular and Reserve Force components and the recovery responsibilities for the Province of New Brunswick.

All this support involves over 10,000 work orders per year and requires a large expenditure of land maintenance resources: 300,000 hours of direct labour and $500,000 of contracting to the local economy for repair services. Maintenance Company is home to a significant proportion of the Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (EME) Corps in the Atlantic Area.
