Welcome to New Brunswick and Canada's Maritime Provinces. If you've lived here previously you can appreciate your good fortune; if not, you are about to experience living in a manner quite unlike anything you've experienced before. A tour in Canada's "Picture Province" has a tendency to grow on you; just ask someone who has spent some time in this region. Negative expectations are soon dispelled as you discover the marvelous diversity of the region and the genuineness of its people.
The province offers a myriad of recreational opportunities, particularly to the outdoor set. The woodlands offer readily accessible small and big game hunting, unquestionably the best salmon fishing in the world and countless lakes and rivers offering trout, landlocked salmon and a variety of other game fish. Within ten minutes of Fredericton are several lakes offering the best bass fishing in North America. The species is largely ignored by the local population, but draws enthusiasts from all over the continent. The province's rivers offer some of the best wilderness canoeing you could hope to encounter, and for the sailing enthusiast our geography is hard to equal. Of course, our beautiful beaches, particularly along the Northumberland shore, and abundant marine life are well known. The unspoiled shores of the rugged Bay of Fundy offer such novelties as "whale watching," opportunities for deep-sea fishing and a "waterfall" that changes direction with the highest tides in the world.
Although the big city life of Montreal and Toronto seems far removed, you'll be surprised by the easy access to such cultural diversions as theatre, music and art. The facilities of two universities are at your doorstep. Of course, living in central New Brunswick you are within easy reach of the beauty of Prince Edward Island and of our sister province Nova Scotia. The surprisingly cosmopolitan city of Halifax offers all the things that you would expect of a major centre in terms of shopping, entertainment and the like.
The beauty, history, cultures and day to day life of the Maritimes is bound to affect you. As any Career Manager will tell you, it is often difficult to find people demanding a posting to CFB Gagetown, but is often equally as difficult to get those same people to leave.
Welcome, and prepare yourself for an enjoyable tour.
