About CFB Edmonton

CFB Edmonton is comprised of a number of major sites in the Edmonton capital region. The main site is named Steele Barracks after Sir Samuel Steele, an original founding member of the Northwest Mounted Police. It covers 2,550 hectares of land situated in Sturgeon County on the northeast border of the City of Edmonton.

Griesbach Barracks, named after Major-General W.A. Griesbach, a WWI veteran and former mayor of Edmonton, is a 600-plus acre parcel of land situated within the City of Edmonton and is home to Land Force Western Area Headquarters. The site, transferred to the Canada Lands Company, is undergoing major redevelopment. Military families currently residing in private married quarters at the site will continue to live there.

Jefferson Armouries, named after Brigadier James Currie Jefferson, the Commanding Officer of the Loyal Edmonton Regiment during the Second World War, is located on the north side of Edmonton and is home to the Loyal Edmonton Regiment, B Squadron South Alberta Light Horse, 15 Field Ambulance, the Cadet Instructor Cadre School and 6 Intelligence Company.

Debney Armouries, named after Lieutenant-Colonel Philip Debney, the Commanding Officer of 8 Field Engineer Regiment during the Second World War, is located on the south side of Edmonton and is home to 20 Field Regiment (RCA), 15 Service Battalion and 8 Field Engineer Regiment.

Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship Nonsuch is a naval reserve unit located on Kingsway Avenue. In addition, a number of transmitter-receiver sites are located throughout the Edmonton capital region.
