Regimental Sergeant Major biography

Chief Warrant Officer Edwards, CD
Canadian Grenadier Guards Regimental Sergeant Major.

CWO Edwards was born in the St. George Parish in the colony of St. Kitts, Nevis and Anguilla on September 9, 1958.

CWO Edwards began his career in the Canadian Forces with the Royal Canadian Hussars (Mtl) in September 1976. During his general military training his progression was of such high standard that he was chosen as a competitor in the Dunn's Trophy Competition.

He was promoted to the rank of Cpl on the 01 April 1978 and then went on to finish his junior NCO'S course in May 1981. After being granted an equivalency for his TQ 2 course he was promoted to the rank of Master Corporal in June 1982. He then finished his senior NCO course in October of that same year.

CWO Edwards was deployed to Germany for nine months as a member of the Canadian Forces Europe in January 1983 with the Royal Canadian Dragons Recce Sqn, where he was employed as a gunner and later as a crew commander.

He was promoted to the rank of Sgt in June 1984 and he continued to support the unit as an instructor for several courses. Promoted to Warrant Officer in September 1986, and then appointed to SSM in 1988 for "A" Sqn RCH. In May 1991 was promoted to MWO. In April 1999 CWO Edwards was promoted to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer and was appointed Regimental Sergeant Major of the Royal Canadian Hussars, a position he held until September 2004.

In 2004 the 3rd Field Engineer Regiment was in need of an RSM and although not an engineer CWO Edwards took on the position and the challenges which came with it. He held the position until the 2nd of September 2008 leaving behind a much stronger Sr NCO mess.

In September 2008 CWO Edwards was appointed Regimental Sergeant Major of the Canadian Grenadier Guards.

In his civilian life CWO Edwards works for the Montreal Fire Department. He jointed the Cote Saint Luc fire department in Feb 1994 as a firefighter and worked his way up to become a first class fireman. After the cities merged in 2001 he applied for the driver's position in Ils Bizard where he is presently working as the driver of Pump 256.

Even though much of his time is taken up with both his civilian and military jobs, he still finds the time to volunteer for other organizations.

He joined the legion branch of the RCH and was elected VP of that branch two years later. After finishing that term as VP he served for three years as the Branch President.

CWO Edwards also volunteered as a soccer coach in Dollard for several years. He later became head coach for the Dollard Soccer Club for 2 years and followed that with a 4 year appointment as VP Inter City Soccer. In January of 2008 he was appointed to a two year term as the Chairman of the Lac St Louis youth Soccer League. He is still coaching in the Dollard soccer club organization to this date.

CWO Edwards is married to Jennifer Duncan and has a son Houston Edwards.
