SERVE WITH HONOUR AND PERSEVERANCE

colonel Daniel Genest Commander Sylvain Sirois

Ladies and gentlemen of the Quebec Defence community,

As Commander 5 Area Support Group (5 ASG), I am extremely pleased and proud to be sharing my vision with you through our new communication platform.

First of all, the experiences I have had in many operations, both within the country and overseas, have helped me to recognize the importance of teamwork, to which I am committed. In my 27 years with the Canadian Forces I have had the opportunity to grow, and my experience has exceeded my own expectations. Moreover, I have had the privilege of meeting exceptional leaders and senior non-commissioned officers of the highest quality, who have helped me to learn both from my mistakes and from my successes. Today I work in an institution where I am able to take on great challenges, and I feel well prepared to meet these challenges as your commander.

5 ASG is a solid team that combines members of the Regular and Reserve Forces and civilian employees, all of them proud, dedicated and committed to the mission. I can tell you that whether generating troops for domestic or international operations, conducting domestic operations or providing institutional support to Land Force Quebec Area (LFQA) and Joint Task Force East (JTF(E)), 5 ASG will continue to maintain a high level of service. Our sense of innovation and the dedication of our personnel are recognized throughout the Army.

I remind you that the concept of the 5 ASG formation was inspired by the vision of Major General (Ret) Alain Forand. The formation has since developed based on his vision, and with the contribution of all my predecessors it has continued to evolve. Last year, we proudly celebrated our 10th anniversary. Our organization is still quite young, and although it is brimming with enthusiasm and energy, it still has not reached full maturity. It is our duty to continue to build on this solid beginning and to uphold the excellent reputation of 5 ASG.

As for myself, I undertake to lead a proud operational team that will take care of all of its members and support the commanders of other formations such as LFQA and JTF (East) in ensuring their well-being.

I will conclude by thanking the families of the members of 5 ASG for their unconditional support; without them 5 ASG could not accomplish its mission.

Be proud of your formation. Together, we can move mountains.

Serve with honour and perseverance.

Commander
