5 Canadian Service Battalion

5 Service Battalion (5 Svc Bn)
generates forward support groups (FSGs) while carrying out sustainment operations to support task forces and the institutional army.

It provides logistics support for all Regular Force, Reserve Force and Cadet units in the greater Quebec City area. It comprises one FSGs, four functional companies and one logistics operations centre (LOC), and its main effort consists in generating and training national support elements (NSE) for each of the expeditionary task forces in LFQA/JTF (East).
To do this, the Battalion trains four NSEs for deployment every three years. Concerning domestic operations, 5 Canadian Service Battalion provides the FSG for the task force on 24 hours' notice.

In addition, the Battalion provides a decontamination platoon and a mobile resupply detachment for the resupply of task forces throughout Quebec and elsewhere. Lastly, the Battalion provides units with transportation, supply and maintenance services.

Transport Coy: The transport company offers close support and general support with operators for the transport of personnel and equipment. It also transports bulk POLs and refuels 430 Tactical Helicopter Squadron aircraft in garrison. It manages and maintains the fleet of commercial vehicles from Trois-Rivières to Gaspé and is responsible for operational movement support for LFQA. It also manages a postal counter at Valcartier Garrison.

Maintenance Coy: The maintenance company is responsible for close and general support related to maintenance of standard military pattern vehicles, combat vehicles, weapon systems, electronic systems, land optronics and any other type of operational land equipment. It is an integral part of the national towing program, covering Eastern Quebec. The maintenance company also provides technical training for the Area’s apprentice technicians

Supply Coy: The supply company takes care of the reception, storage and distribution of clothing, vehicles, POLs, field rations (including individual meal packs) and equipment from supply depots (via the central equipment distribution service). It also offers bivouac equipment loans, integrated waste management, as well as limited laundry, shower and decontamination services.

In addition, the company manages the acquisition of miscellaneous services and equipment, manages supply accounts and conducts supply system administration and inventory. The supply company ammunition platoon manages and issues ammunition and explosives, as well as neutralizing and disposing of military ammunition for the entire province of Quebec.

Administration Coy: The service company is tasked with providing integral support to 5 Service Battalion and acts as a build-up cell for NSEs. It comprises a transport, maintenance, signals and logistics platoon, which includes the Battalion quartermaster and a section of cooks. It also has a force generation quartermaster and training cell that plans NSE training.

Logistics Operations Centre (LOC): The LOC generates expeditionary forces and sustains domestic and institutional task forces. The operations cell manages all Battalion tasks, while the training cell has two components: individual and collective Battalion training.
