About Us

History

37 Canadian Brigade Group (CBG) Headquarters was created in Moncton on April 1, 1997 when a reorganization of Atlantic Militia Area took place. What was previously known as the New Brunswick/PEI Militia District, and responsible for Army Reserves in NB and PEI, became 37 Canadian Brigade Group with responsibility of Army Reserves in New Brunswick and Newfoundland and Labrador. Colonel Greg MacCallum assumed command of the Brigade June 2008.

Domestic Operations

In its short history, the Brigade sent Regular and Reserve soldiers to Ontario to provide assistance in the aftermath of the 1998 ice storm; soldiers from this Brigade assisted with the clean up of a similar storm that struck the Saint John and Fundy coast areas of New Brunswick that same year; and when tragedy struck Swiss Air Flight 111 in Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia, soldiers from 37 CBG were sent to assist. During the 9/11 tragedies in 2001, members of 37 CBG provided support to stranded passengers in NL.

Deployments

In 2007, Reserve soldiers from 37 CBG prepared for and deployed to Afghanistan for Task Force 1-07. These dedicated and professional soldiers deployed to Afghanistan with a total of 300 Reserve members from Land Force Atlantic Area to provide security and stabilization to the country; to support the rebuilding of Afghanistan and crucial humanitarian work, and to eliminate threats to international peace and security.

Still, members of 37 CBG proudly serve overseas in areas like Afghanistan, Sudan and various other missions on behalf of the Canadian people.

Who we are

37 CBG is comprised of some 1,500 members of which, approximately 70 are members of the Regular Force. The Brigade headquarters is located in Moncton and has ten units under its command. These units are located in 14 communities throughout New Brunswick and Newfoundland and Labrador.

When We Train

Most of our members are a mixture of full-time Regular and Reserve Force members. Full-time members of the Bde may be reached throughout the work week from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Our part-time Reservists as well as all other members train on Thursday evenings from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Our motto

37 CBG continues to strive for excellence by following its motto "Uniti Valentiores" (United We Are Stronger). This motto signifies that the Army Reserve in the two distinguished provinces of NB and NL are strong and united. Our soldiers serve Canada as combat-capable, highly trained soldiers both here and abroad.
