I would like to express my admiration for those who take on the operational challenges necessary to accomplish objectives in Afghanistan such as reconstruction, increasing security, and restoring stability, democracy and autonomy.

Do not forget that you are contributing not only to the security of Afghanistan, but also to the security and quality of life of your families and your fellow Canadian citizens.

It is an honour to command dedicated and courageous members such as yourselves, who are prepared to represent your countrys values and participate in a mission. It is your efforts that have produced the results of this mission. Always remember that your contribution is essential and makes you a hero among all others who have helped make the world a better place.

We think of you every day. We hope that our thoughts bring you energy, strength and perseverance.

While you are away, we are committed to supporting you by preparing the members who will succeed you. With the members of the Joint Force, we will proudly tell civilian society why you have chosen to be involved in this highly important mission. Finally, together with your regimental families, we will do our utmost to support your loved ones at home and the members who form the rear base.

I send you my best wishes for success. Stay strong, resolute and proud; you are Canadian troops, recognized in the profession of arms and proud inheritors of a long tradition of exemplary service.
