Child & Youth Counseling

As part of the ongoing effort to provide support to Military Families, the Shilo Military Family Resource Centre is offering the services of a Child and Youth Counsellor

The Child & Youth Counsellor provides the following services:

  • Provides faculty and staff from local school systems with concrete tools regarding specific deployment concerns about children and youth.
  • Counseling in the local Schools.
  • Individual counseling.
  • Group counseling
  • Participate in scheduled activities in the Teen Centre.
  • Weekly scheduled evening 'drop in time' for children and youth.
  • Liaise with Mental Health Professionals serving the local area.

A second aspect of the program is offering direct service to military families in Brandon. Scheduled visits to the Brandon Armouries will be made bi-monthly and dates are as follows:

In addition to outreach work the Child & Youth Counsellor has committed to establishing a column in the Shilo Stag that will address deployment issues as well as general issues related to childhood development.

  • Regressive Behavior in Children
  • Drugs and Alcohol: Teens and Experimentation
