1 RCHA is the senior unit of the regular component of the Canadian Forces. It traces its origins to October 20, 1871, when A and B batteries of garrison artillery were established and stationed at Kingston, Ontario and Quebec City respectively.
In 1899 C Battery was raised to full strength and became part of Canada’s commitment to the Boer War. The Regiment fought in the Boer War, World Wars One and Two, the Korean conflict, as well as in Afghanistan.
In peacetime, 1 RCHA served in West Germany during the Cold War, numerous UN and NATO operations and during humanitarian and disaster relief in Canada.
1 RCHA is currently garrisoned at Canadian Forces Base Shilo, the Home Station of the Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery.
