Welcome to the 1st Canadian Ranger Patrol Group

Ranger Cpl Tim Dialla, Ranger Sgt Abel Aqqaq, WO Mark St. Pierre, WO David Redford, Chief Instructor George Billings, Sgt Stephane Leduc, and Ranger Sgt Wade Istchenko, gather for a group photo upon completion of the ATV instructor course in Yellowknife, NT, on June 10, 2011.

The Canadian Rangers are an iconic symbol of Canadian sovereignty, safety and security in the north. Since 1947 they have provided a Canadian Forces presence in the isolated and remote communities throughout the northern region.

As members of their local communities, they from an integral part of the linkage between local emergency first responders, municipal, territorial and federal capabilities. The Rangers are experts in survival and local knowledge and as individuals or in small groups they become a force multiplier for any Canadian Forces or Federal asset deployed into these isolated areas of Canada.

Since 1998 the Canadian Rangers have also become an integral part of an exceptional youth programme, the Junior Canadian Rangers (JCR). The JCR patrols are established in the same isolated and remote communities where Ranger patrols are located and offer a structured, locally tailored program for the community youth. These unique opportunities allow JCRs to make valuable contributions to their communities and become active, responsible citizens with skills that will last a lifetime.
